The 2024 World Environment Day was widely commemorated in Port Vila helping to
sustain the #1 Happy Planet Index position of Vanuatu
The Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation DEPC and University of South Pacific organized various activities that included:

2024 Port Vila Clean up followed the guidance of the Chief Erakor Bridge following an identical strategy used in 2018 to support Ministry of Education, Vanuatu Police Force and Port Vila Municipality
Luganville Clean up day
Luganville International School celebrated World Ocean Day by cleaning up the beach and grass at Unity Park. This was an idea from our Year 1-2 students who visited the park as part of their HASS work. They were worried that all the rubbish in the park would end up in the ocean. Students said we needed some more bins in the park and Luganville Municipal Council agreed to give us some bins to decorate and put there. Santo Hardware donated the paint and paintbrushes for us to paint them. Some people from the local community also helped students. Thank you to everyone who helped with this project. We invite you to go and see the beautiful bins beside the beach which were decorated by Year 1-2 students. Please help us to keep Unity Park clean to protect our ocean!
